At Vanderbilt, Laura has focused her volunteer work on Nashville’s Hispanic community. During her freshman year, Laura taught science lessons to elementary students through Vanderbilt Student Volunteers for Science and cooked dinners for families at the Ronald McDonald House through her sorority. During her sophomore and junior years, she began the AMIGOS volunteer group to work with the Hispanic community of Nashville by tutoring at the Metro Nashville Public Schools, teaching English classes for Hispanic adults, and participating in other volunteer activities around Nashville. Individually, she has volunteered in an English as a Second Language classroom at Haywood Elementary and worked individually with high school students at Overton High School. She also participated in Manna Project spring break trip to Honduras to work in a small orphanage. Also, Laura spent the summer of 2009 in Peru teaching English literacy at a local primary school. Following her undergraduate study, Laura will attend medical school at Vanderbilt University.
