Patrick Flaherty

Class of: 2023
Hometown: Frisco, Texas
School: College of Arts & Science
Major(s): Economics and Spanish
Minors(s): Business

Growing up in Frisco, TX, Patrick was always passionate about entrepreneurship and community service. As an entrepreneur from a young age, Patrick learned the basics of business, customer service, and the value of a dollar—skills that weren’t taught in school. Identifying the community need, he formed a 501(c)3, Common Cents Financial Literacy, to bolster money smarts in young students.

At Vanderbilt, Patrick has advocated for the immigrant community through involvement at Workers’ Dignity, Tennessee Justice for Our Neighbors, and Tennessee Immigrant and Refugee Rights Coalition. Patrick completed his Ingram Summer Service Project (2021) with Instituto Patagónico de Desarrollo Social, an Argentine social development organization where he led a financial literacy initiative for indigenous artisans ahead of a new microcredit program. Most recently, Patrick expanded his knowledge of finance as a healthcare investment banking summer analyst with SVB Securities.

Patrick is also a resident advisor in Warren College and enjoys that involvement with the Vanderbilt community. Patrick is honored and grateful to Vanderbilt and the Ingram family for the opportunity to be a part of the Ingram Scholars Program. He is humbled to learn from and work with such collaborative, passionate, and all-around amazing peers.
