Palmer Montalbano was raised in Houston and New Orleans and attended Jesuit High School. The school’s mantra, “Men for Others,” was an ideal fit with Palmer’s calling to serve the community. During his junior year of high school, Palmer and his peers founded Hams For Fams, an annual holiday season meal drive that has raised in excess of $50,000 over the past four years in an effort to deliver meals to over five hundred low-income families. Through the experience of structuring the organization, fund raising, recruiting, procurement, finance, and service execution, Palmer recognized the constructive impact that a relatively small group of dedicated individuals can have on a community. Inspired by the success of Hams for Fams, the group founded The Famcore Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization aiming to spread community service across the country, offering funds and expertise to those who desire to help others. Palmer currently serves as Chairman of the Board of The Famcore Foundation.

During his junior year at Vanderbilt, Palmer focused his service on improving non-profit data practices and the alleviation of homelessness. He volunteered with Room In The Inn as a class assistant where he developed projects and worked with those experiencing homelessness. Palmer also volunteered with the Social Venture Think Tank through The Wondr’y at Vanderbilt, contributing to a plan for improving a Nashville non-profit’s data collection.

Palmer is honored to be a part of the Ingram Scholars Program allowing him to continue serving in the Nashville area. As a Political Science major and Philosophy minor, he plans to continue his experiences and further develop his skills for the benefit of the community both during and after his years at Vanderbilt.
