Weihan “Jack” Chen and Vivian Aluoch begin summer research in the Hillyer Lab
Monday, June 6, 2011
Jack Chen and Vivian Aluoch began today their respective summer research projects in the Hillyer Lab. Both students will be working on a National Science Foundation-funded project that aims to characterize the physiological interaction between the mosquito circulatory and immune systems.
Jack is a rising sophomore at Vanderbilt University who has been working in the lab for the past year. This summer he will focus on characterizing the effect of different anesthetic agents on mosquito heart physiology. For this, Jack is being funded by an NSF REU supplement to NSF grant IOS-1051636.
Vivian is a Nashville high school student that joined the lab through Vanderbilt’s Research Internship Program. She will study the role mosquito neurohormones play in modulating heart contractions, and her participation is being funded by NSF-IOS-1051636 and Vanderbilt’s RIP program.
