Legal Notices

When creating your own publications it is important to include the official Equal Employment Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Disability Services statement  from EAD; the appropriate copyright notice, and recycling information. Verbiage for those statements and notices can be found below.

Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, and Disability Services Statement

The full version is expected on publications that are large enough to carry it (i.e. brochures, booklets)

Short version for posters and very small publications

Vanderbilt University is committed to principles of equal opportunity and affirmative action.

Statement for job advertisements

“Vanderbilt University is an equal opportunity, affirmative action employer.” Phrases such as “women, minorities and people with disabilities are encouraged to apply” may be added, but the official statement should appear as printed above.

Statement for university letterhead

Although not required by policy, use of the job advertisement statement on university stationery is encouraged. Because the words Vanderbilt University already appear on the letterhead, the phrase “An equal opportunity, affirmative action employer” across the bottom of the stationery is sufficient.

Recycling Blurb*

This publication is recyclable. Please recycle it [add appropriate recycle symbol next to these words].

 * Note that if metallic ink is being used, the statement about "ink made from renewable resources" is to be deleted.                           

FSC (When working with Vanderbilt Printing Services) 

Use FSC logo and Rainforest symbol, EXCEPT when the paper is an EXCEPTION and is NOT FSC certified. Rainforest symbol is optional, if designer prefers to omit.

If there is not time to get the FSC certification on a rush print job, use the recycling text above without the FSC and Rainforest symbols.

 Note that there is NO reference in the verbiage to FSC certification in any case.
