This virtual internship is not currently available through the Global Education Office.
SIT offers remote, for-credit, thematic internships abroad in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America, in nonprofit, private, and government sectors. All SIT internships feature a concurrent seminar.
SIT's internship and attached seminar revolve around specific, thematic topics such as Public Health and COVID-19 Pandemic in the Tropics (Kenya); Transitional Justice, Human Rights & Memory Activism (Serbia & Kosovo); Environment, Development & Sustainability (India); and more.
Students will be expected to devote approximately 12–15 hours a week to synchronous and asynchronous internship and seminar activities, including orientation sessions, country- and theme-specific sessions, and internship work. Frequency, duration, and scheduling of synchronous activities will be determined the first week of the course in conversation with participants to find mutually convenient times. Some internship placements require language proficiency.
NOTE: The spring 2022 virtual internship in Chile starts on Feb. 28, 2022 and ends May 20, 2022, all other approved virtual internships start Jan. 18, 2022 and end Apr. 11, 2022.
As part of the SIT program students will complete a final paper on their internship.
VU credits: 4 (This 4-credit Remote Global Internship is offered as part of a 12–18 semester credit-hour load. Students will complete the SIT Remote Global Internship and internship course alongside their regular Vanderbilt semester coursework.
