WHAT PRINCIPLES GUIDE FUTUREVU?

  • FutureVU is a framework for the development of Vanderbilt's campus over the next 20 to 30 years. The initiative considers core themes - such as connectivity and community enhancement, diversity and inclusion, accessibility, environmental sustainability, and preservation of the university's historic, park-like setting - in support of Vanderbilt's Academic Strategic Plan.
  • Principles include:
    • Connecting Vanderbilt's community of neighborhoods
    • Integrating academic, residential and trans-institutional spaces
    • Respecting Vanderbilt's historic identity
    • Being a good citizen of Nashville and the region
    • Promoting diversity and inclusion
    • Making campus more walkable, bikeable and sustainable
    • Preserving and expanding the campus' park-like setting

 

CAMPUS ENGAGEMENT

  • 15 board of trust meetings
  • Collaboration with VSG resulting in a proposal of 45 recommendations for the FutureVU plan
  • FutureVU Expo attended by 800+ people
  • 30+ faculty meetings
  • 6 transportation working groups of 90+ students, faculty and staff formed in collaboration with the Wond’ry
  • 6 town halls
  • 20+ FutureVU presentations
  • Over 30 external community meetings
  • Over 30 student sessions
  • 1700+ total participants as of June 2018

 

UNDERGRADUATE RESIDENTIAL COLLEGES: WEST END

  • Four new colleges: E. Bronson Ingram to open fall 2018, and three in active planning phase
  • Each College will have:
    • Dining room and servery
    • Multipurpose rooms
    • Great room/library
    • Resident living room
    • Study rooms and lounges
    • Community kitchens
    • Laundry
    • Gender-neutral bathrooms
    • Singles, doubles, and suites
    • Courtyards
  • Engaged communities supported by ResLife, a Faculty Director, and Graduate Fellows
  • Neighborhoods to include performance/recital and gallery spaces
  • Key requests for beautification:
    • Inclusivity
    • Accessibility
    • Community spaces
    • Green spaces
    • Pedestrian friendly
