Selecting housing for
2014–2015:
A message from the Senior Director of Housing Operations
The fall semester has just ended, and students are catching their breath
while enjoying family, friends and holidays. It is hard to believe that
students will soon engage in the process of choosing housing for the
2014–2015 academic year. In fact, the room assignment process begins on
the very first day of spring semester classes: January 6, 2014.
This spring, the housing assignment process will be different in very
important ways than in past years. It is important for your student to
understand this so that they don't rely on the advice of older students
or even their own past experience. The only reliable source of
information will be the Office of Housing and Residential Education (OHARE), its staff and its official
publications. Students are solely responsible for understanding the
process, the rules, the calendar of assignment events, and all deadlines.
New this year are Warren and Moore Colleges, the two new residence halls
that will open in August 2014 on the site of the former Kissam
Quadrangle. As the first of the upperclass College Halls at Vanderbilt,
Warren and Moore are unique among Vanderbilt's housing for upperclass
students in two ways:
1.
Each upperclass cohort (rising seniors, rising juniors and
rising sophomores) has a total quota of 110 women and 110 men for Warren
and Moore.
2.
Warren and Moore offer six different living accommodations:
singles; doubles; and suites for three, four, five, and six students.
The assignment
process for Warren and Moore is as unique as the colleges themselves.
Unlike all other assignment processes for other residence halls, students
seeking to live in Warren and Moore will be able to submit a single
ballot (with up to five (5) friends) and rank up to three (3) choices for
accommodations. For example, four friends could submit a single ballot
together and rank their preferences for accommodations like this:
1. four-person suite
2.
two doubles
3.
four singles
Because the
Warren/Moore process is unique and because the overall assignment process
for upperclass housing is long and complex, I will present a webinar on the
assignment process and take questions from attendees at 4 p.m. CST on Tuesday, December
17, 2013. Please see below for more information about the
webinar.
In addition, complete information about the 2014–2015 housing assignment
process will be available on our website, and printed copies of the Guide to the Housing Assignment
Process will be available by January 6 at the OHARE offices
in 4113 Branscomb Quadrangle and in Hustler
newsstands across campus.
Always feel free to contact the housing assignments office at (615)
322-2591 or consult our website with any housing questions you might
have. It is much better to have the correct answer at the beginning than
to try to correct a mistake at the end.
