Staff

EOA offices are located in Suite 700 of the Loews Vanderbilt Office Building at 2100 West End Avenue.

Sandra E. Keith, Associate Director:  Sandra manages investigations and resolves complaints of discrimination, harassment, and related retaliation within the institution.  She also facilitates training, processes reasonable accommodation requests for religious reasons, and provides consultation on related topics.  Sandra received her undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and a Doctor of Jurisprudence from the University of Florida.  Prior to joining EOA, Sandra worked as the Director of Equity, Diversity, and Compliance at Tennessee State University.  She has also worked as an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Tennessee.

D. Michael Carter, Compliance Manager:  As EOA’s Compliance Manager, Michael investigates complaints of prohibited discrimination and is responsible for putting together the university's annual affirmative action plan.  Michael also trains faculty and staff on issues pertaining to diversity. Michael holds a B.A. in Psychology from Vanderbilt University and a J.D. from the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.  Prior to joining EOA, he worked as a Violence Against Women Act (VAWA) attorney at the Legal Aid Society of Middle Tennessee and the Cumberlands  and as a staff attorney at the Disability Law & Advocacy Center of Tennessee. 

Caitlin Bird, Reasonable Accommodation Manager: Caitlin manages reasonable accommodation requests covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act as amended, as well as religious accommodations for faculty, staff, and students. She also provides consultation on related topics. Caitlin received her undergraduate degree in Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University and will be awarded her master’s degree in December 2023 by Lindsey Wilson College. Prior to joining EOA, Caitlin worked as an Account Executive on the Integrated Absence Solutions Team with Lockton Dunning and was awarded her Leave Management Specialist Designation from the Disability Management Employer Coalition while working with Aon as a member of the Time Away and Life Solutions Team.

Kristi Penton, Office Manager: Kristi is typically the first point of contact for the office. She conducts initial interviews regarding potential violations of Vanderbilt’s EEO/AA and Anti-Harassment policies or other issues of unlawful discrimination and coordinates calendars of the Director and Associate Director. Prior to joining EOA, she worked for Metro Davidson County Schools.
