Dear Vanderbilt Student,

I am writing to share an important update about Vanderbilt’s Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) that will go into effect beginning August 12, 2021 for the 2021-2022 academic year.

After a comprehensive review process and search, Academic HealthPlans (AHP) will replace Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk as Vanderbilt’s student health insurance plan administrator. AHP offers student health insurance brokerage services, plan administration, and customer service, and will manage the SHIP waiver process for those who would like to waive SHIP.

For the 2021-2022 academic year, SHIP coverage will go into effect on August 12, 2021. Eligible students will be automatically enrolled in and have access to their AHP portal and waiver form on May 17, 2021. Eligible students will receive an email from AHP with instructions about the waiver process.

Does this change affect my current SHIP benefits?

This change does not affect the benefits for students currently enrolled in SHIP through August 11, 2021 for the 2020-2021 academic year. Students on SHIP for this current academic year should continue to reach out to Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk with questions about SHIP.

Does this change apply to newly enrolled Maymester or Summer 2021 students?

This change also does not affect the enrollment, benefits, or SHIP waiver process for newly enrolled Maymester or Summer 2021 students. Domestics students can request to waive SHIP by logging in to their Gallagher Student Health & Special Risk web portal by visiting www.gallagherstudent.com/Vanderbilt and clicking “waive.” Newly enrolled international Maymester or Summer 2021 students may request to waive SHIP by following the instructions sent to your Vanderbilt email on April 14, 2021.
