Student Affairs Comms E-Newsletter [Vanderbilt University]

June 22, 2022

Dear DOS Staff,

I hope your summer is off to a great start and you have been able to take some time to rest and recharge. As we continue with our DOS Summer Learning Series, I look forward to seeing you at the next required in-person session, Amplifying Belongingness Through Supporting Diverse Students, which will take place next Tuesday, June 28 from 9:30am-3:00pm in the SLC Ballroom. Lunch will be provided, so please make sure to register for the event and make a lunch selection using the Anchor Link form by Thursday, June 23.

This session will provide critical information to help us better support our students and we will have presentations from the Student Center for Social Justice and Identity and several important campus partners, including Intercultural Education and Outreach, the Frist Center for Autism and Innovation, LGBTQI Life, the Center for Spiritual and Religious Life, the Bishop Joseph Johnson Black Cultural Center, and Student Access. Staff will have the opportunity to attend several breakouts during the session, including:

  • Working with Disabled Students
  • Working with Neurodiverse Students
  • Working with Indigenous/Native Students
  • Antisemitism and Judaism
  • Working with Asian Pacific Islander Desi American (APIDA) Students
  • Working with LGBTQIA+ Students
  • Working with First-Gen and Low Income Students
  • Black Identity Development
  • Working with Latinx Students

Please also plan to attend Supporting Student Mental Health with the Student Care Network on July 13 from 9:30am-2:00pm and the DOS All Staff Meeting on July 20 from 10:00am-1:00pm. Additional information about lunch for these sessions will be shared at a later date.

Finally, thank you to everyone who attended the Microsoft Teams training with VUIT last week. If you were not able to attend, please take some time to watch the recording of the session.

Please email DOSAdministration@vanderbilt.edu with any questions.

Sincerely,

G.L. Black
Vice Provost for Student Affairs and Dean of Students
