Student Affairs Comms E-Newsletter [Vanderbilt University]

Friday, January 5, 2017

Dear Vanderbilt Students,

During the late summer and fall of 2017, the United States and the world at large experienced a number of disastrous events. The Dean of Students office provides support when these events occur and encourages students to seek help when it is needed.

To this end, during the fall semester of 2017, in response to natural disasters, acts of terror, and other matters, we sent you no fewer than a dozen messages with information about on-campus support resources. We have learned that many of you are experiencing “message fatigue.”

Because we remain committed to supporting students in crisis, and to providing the resources required to do so, we will pilot a new communications approach for the spring semester 2018, intended to reduce the number of messages you receive while still providing you with important information about seeking support.

Going forward, at the beginning of each semester, The Center for Student Wellbeing will send all students a list of campus resources for those times when a student may need assistance for whatever reason. (See list, below.) The Center for Student Wellbeing will also send out reminders on a regular basis about how to seek needed support.

In this way, we will continue to provide reminders that there is a network of support on campus that is available to you when you need it, without inundating you with messages.

Please know that we are here for you and that you may always call the Dean of Students office for assistance.
