Provost Message E-Newsletter [Vanderbilt University]

May 2017

Dear Colleagues,

Thank you for your thoughtful questions surrounding non-tenure track faculty unionization and the upcoming elections.

We’ve heard from many of you and know that countless questions and uncertainties still linger about this process and this union. We also know that this is a challenging time for a faculty election given classes are not in session. Nonetheless, the Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has requested and the National Labor Relations Board has ordered that the election must occur now.

Please take a moment to watch the following video. My goal is simple: I want to make sure all faculty voices are heard.

Ballots will be mailed this week to the homes of those included in the voter list.  Those in this voter list received an email directly from Vice Provost John Geer. For questions about voter eligibility, please see the FAQs on the Provost website, vu.edu/faculty-unionization.

If you are a voter, please watch for your ballot in your mailbox and VOTE! To be counted, the NLRB office must receive your ballot before 2 p.m. on Tuesday June 6th.

Thank you for all that you do. Vanderbilt is indeed better because of each of you.

Sincerely,

Susan R. Wente

Provost and Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs
