Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Introduction

The TEFL Introduction Program offered by the English Language Center (ELC) introduces the foundations of teaching English as a foreign language. The program aims to provide students with a basic introduction of language teaching and cross-cultural awareness.

Please note: The TEFL Introduction Program does NOT offer a TEFL certificate or other credentials.

Summer: Online & Self-study

The Summer 2022 TEFL Introduction Program provides students with a basic introduction to language teaching and cross-cultural awareness they can study at their own pace. The online, self-study program was created for potential study-abroad students, study-abroad returnees who seek ways to apply their cultural experiences, and those interested in applying for related US contexts and overseas placements, such as the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant (ETA) Program.

Program Details

The core of the program is three components:

  1. Using Cultural Competencies in Teaching
  2. TEFL Approaches, Methods, and Materials
  3. Guided Lesson Planning


This online, self-study program is active for the Summer 2022 Semester at no cost.

(Summer 2022 only).


Currently enrolled VU students who are in good academic standing and VU affiliated scholars interested in teaching EAL learners.
