Syriac Manuscript Cataloging in TEI XML Working Group
The Syriac Manuscript Cataloging Group is developing a database of Syriac manuscripts in the British Library, based on a nineteenth century English-language catalog. Using TEI XML, this Working Group has been creating digital records for each entry in the print catalog to be deployed on Syriaca.org: The Syriac Reference Portal. Although this project focuses on Syriac manuscripts, TEI and XML boast a wide range of applications, particularly in the Digital Humanities. Anyone interested in learning TEI XML to encode textual data in a semantically rich, digital medium is welcome to join—no knowledge of Syriac necessary!
