Graduate Assistantships

The 2024-2025 Graduate Assistantship Application is now open and is due by Tuesday, February 27

The Office of the Provost proudly partners with Peabody College to offer the Office of the Provost Graduate Assistantship Program. This program includes graduate assistantship and graduate area coordinator positions across several offices in the Office of the Provost and Vice Provost areas at Vanderbilt University. These assistantships, which are available to students studying on-campus, provide compensation and allow students the opportunity to connect theory learned in the classroom with practical work experience.

Recruitment Process

Student Affairs collaborates with the Office of the Provost to facilitate and coordinate the administration of the Office of the Provost Graduate Assistantship Program, including overseeing the annual recruitment process for graduate assistants.

Candidates are selected based on a matching process. Following interview day, applicants are asked to rank order the positions for which they interviewed. Supervisors do the same for the candidates for which they interviewed.

Candidates who have been matched have until the Graduate School Decision Deadline to formally accept or decline the position offer. Additional rolling matches may be made after the initial matches have been made as candidates notify us of their decision to accept or decline the offer.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many positions should I apply to?
We encourage applicants to cast a wide net. Some positions will receive between 50 – 60 applications for one available GA position and thus can be more competitive. While some students will want to be considered for every available position, we encourage you to select positions you would seriously consider.

Are references required as part of the GA application process?
Yes. During the application process in eRezLife, you will be asked to provide the contact information for two references. References will be reviewed before extending an offer.

What if I am unable to interview on the scheduled interview day?

You are still eligible to apply for positions. If you are unable to participate on the scheduled interview day, please email studentaffairsassistantships@vanderbilt.edu. We will work with you to schedule your Zoom interview(s) on a different date.

How many interviews should I expect to have on GA Interview Day?
This depends on how many positions you applied for. On average, applicants can expect between 1 to 4 interviews. Again, we encourage you to cast a wide net but only apply for the positions for which you would seriously consider.

How long are interviews expected to last?
Interviews are scheduled from 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM CT. Each interview will last approximately 25 minutes.

I received a scholarship from Peabody College. Can I stack my scholarship with a GA position?

GA positions cannot be stacked with most scholarships. Typically, the GA position is more advantageous and of greater value than the Peabody scholarships. However, since the Graduate Student Workers (GSW) and Graduate Area Coordinator (GAC) positions are not tuition-based in compensation, you can combine these packages with your Peabody scholarship. For any further questions about your scholarship, please email studentaffairsassistantships@vanderbilt.edu.

Where can I find information about graduate assistant opportunities for my Peabody program?
Different departments share their opportunities at different times. We recommend contacting someone from your department and checking the Peabody Job Board.

ADDITIONAL QUESTIONS regarding Student Affairs graduate assistantships and related assistantship opportunities should be directed to studentaffairsassistantships@vanderbilt.edu. A member of the Student Affairs team will be in touch to assist you.
