DOS welcomes two new staff members to the Center for Student Wellbeing. JaNiene Peoples joins DOS after recently earning a master’s degree in health education from Texas A&M University.  Samantha York joins DOS after working at the Psychological & Counseling Center as the academic counselor for the last two years.

On May 25, 2016, JaNiene Peoples joined the Center for Student Wellbeing as a Student Wellbeing Coordinator. JaNiene earned a master’s degree in health education from Texas A&M University and a bachelor’s degree in health and human performance with a concentration in exercise and sports science from the University of Memphis. JaNiene has instructed undergraduate students on a number of health and wellness practices, including exercise, nutrition, weight management, stress and performance management, tobacco and alcohol use, and sexually transmitted infections. JaNiene understands the need for health behavior change and is committed to providing the most effective services to vulnerable populations. She will continue using her varied educational studies and experiences to implement health improvement programs in her new role at Vanderbilt.

Samantha York

Samantha York

This summer, Samantha York joins the staff of the Center for Student Wellbeing as the resident Academic Skills Coach, after occupying that role in the Psychological and Counseling Center for the last two years. Samantha holds a Master of Arts in Higher Education from the Morgridge College of Education at the University of Denver, with coursework in Pastoral Care and Counseling from the affiliated Iliff School of Theology, and a Bachelor’s degree in Literary Studies (English major!), with minors in French and Psychology of learning. Her varied educational interests have led to a diverse range of professional experiences as well, including work in housing, conduct, advising, programming, student orgs and leadership, assessment and accreditation, and disability services. She has done this work at a range of institutions, including Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado, and Watkins College of Art, Design and Film here in Nashville.  Regardless of the title or institution, Samantha’s favorite part of her work is always the direct student service and the opportunity to meet students where they are.
