Introduction to the 2019-2020 Curb Writing Fellows

In addition to pursuing their projects at the Curb Center, our Creative Writing Fellows are active in Nashville’s arts community.

This past Sunday, Creative Campus Writing Fellow poet Joshua Moore read his work at the Scarritt Bennett Center in honor of the release of 2015 Nashville Youth Poet Laureate Lagnajita’s second book, “everything is always leaving.” Joshua is the host of Versify, a Nashville Public Radio podcast where community members’ stories are captured and translated into poems by Nashville-based poets. During the “everything” event, themes of identity, movement, and belonging resonated through the evening.

This Thursday 9/19, Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center Writing Fellow and songwriter John Shakespear will perform at The 5 Spot in East Nashville, alongside locally-based artists Peter Vance and Mountainwalker. The show starts at 9 pm, and promises a cozy blend of indie and folk influences. You can find John’s new record Spend Your Youth, which has received praise from NPR and American Songwriter, on SpotifyAppleMusic, or wherever you prefer to stream your music.
