Invention Disclosure Resources
Vanderbilt University and Medical Center personnel who have conceived of a new idea, technique, design, software program, research reagent, medical device, or other invention should disclose it to CTTC via the Inventor Portal using the Invention Disclosure Submission button below.
Important: To help protect potential intellectual property rights, please do not use AI tools other than Amplify to analyze or generate content related to unpublished inventions when completing the CTTC Invention Disclosure Form. Use of unapproved AI tools may be considered a public disclosure and could affect patent rights.
Access Requirement: Users must be connected to the Vanderbilt University or Vanderbilt University Medical Center network, either on campus or through VPN, to access and submit an invention disclosure.
Not sure which of the disclosure types you should use in the Inventor Portal?
After logging into the inventor portal, you will be guided through each step of the disclosure process with easy-to-follow instructions. The first step is to select the appropriate disclosure type. There are four different disclosure forms that cover various types of intellectual property, and each form differs based on the type of information needed for CTTC to evaluate the technology and fulfill any necessary contractual requirements.
The Invention Disclosure form (the most used form) is for any potentially patentable innovation such as new processes, pharmaceuticals, devices and systems. The Software disclosure form and Creative Works disclosure form both apply to copyrightable material and are fairly self-explanatory. For Research Tools - often a plasmid, mouse model, cell line, or other common tool used in the lab – we have our concise Tangible Materials form.
