Main Commencement Ceremony

Time: 9:00 am - Noon
Location: Alumni Lawn

During Vanderbilt's main commencement ceremony on Alumni Lawn, all undergraduate and graduate and professional school candidates will gather for the official, traditional commencement exercises.

All participating candidates will process in promptly at  9:00 am. Students should refer to the procession instructions to ensure they assemble in the correct location on campus. 

Following the main ceremony, at approximately 10:15 am, graduate and professional school candidates and their guests will be dismissed during a brief break in the programming.

All undergraduate candidates and their guests will remain on Alumni Lawn for Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos' conferral of degrees and awarding of diplomas for the undergraduate Class of 2017. Each undergraduate student will cross the commencement stage, have his or her name formally announced, and receive his or her official diploma. 

Out of respect for all graduates, guests are encouraged to remain onsite and seated for the duration of the degree-awarding ceremony.

Graduate and Professional School Degree Awarding Ceremonies

Upon dismissal from the main commencement ceremony, graduate and professional school candidates and their guests should proceed to various locations across campus for their school affiliated degree - awarding ceremonies. During said ceremonies, candidates will receive their official diplomas.

The Office of the Chancellor invites all recent graduates, guests, and members of the campus community to convene and celebrate the Class of 2017! Celebratory champagne, complimented by fresh strawberries will be served to those 21 years of age and older.

This is a wonderful opportunity for graduates to meet up with faculty, classmates, friends, and family after the commencement ceremony. It is encouraged, but not required, that students and guests from the School of Arts and Sciences convene on Library Lawn and students and guests from The Blair School of Music, The School of Engineering, and The Peabody School, assemble on Bishops Common.
