Message from Interim Chancellor Nicholas Zeppos Regarding Northern Illinois Shooting

Dear Members of the Vanderbilt Community,

Today our support goes out to the students, faculty, staff and families of Northern Illinois University. We are deeply saddened by the tragedy that has struck their campus. Any violence or disaster that befalls one university affects every university, as we are all members of the same great community of higher learning. We stand with the people and families of Northern Illinois University during this terrible time.

We understand that this event and those like it turn thoughts to our own safety and security. Help and guidance are available to all members of the Vanderbilt community who seek it through the Psychological and Counseling Center (2-2571), the Office of Religious Life and Affiliated Ministries (2-2457), and, for students, your Resident Adviser, Head Resident, or Residence Life Coordinator. Vanderbilt University is continuing to enhance and strengthen our own safety and emergency preparedness procedures. Students, feel free to share this information with your parents. Faculty and staff, please help share this information with your colleagues who may not have e-mail access.

Please keep the people of Northern Illinois University in your thoughts and hearts.

Sincerely,
Nicholas S. Zeppos
Interim Chancellor
Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Professor of Law
