“I will tell other veterans that the Bass Military scholar program provides an opportunity to be part of a veteran’s family that continues the tradition of service to others, through mentoring and events among other activities that empower the community.”

Tell us about your military service. What did you do? Where did you serve? What do you value the most about your military service?

My first duty station was at Joint base Langley, then I served as a Cardiopulmonary Lab technician for the rest of my four-year service. My duties included working in intensive care units and the emergency rooms providing care to patients who needed respiratory treatment and mechanical ventilation. I also worked in outpatient Cardiology and Pulmonary clinic performing procedures such as Pulmonary function testing and electrocardiogram. What I valued most about my service was the core values. The Air Force prides itself in “Integrity, Service before self, and Excellence in all we do” core values make military succeed. The core values instilled confidence in me and made me a powerful leader.

What are your thoughts on mentoring other students while at Vanderbilt? As a role model, what values do you want to share?

Mentoring other students is a great opportunity to instill values that might bring encouragement. As a role model, I will share the Air Force core values. Core values inspire us to always do and be our best.

While at Vanderbilt, what will be the focus of your studies and how do you plan to use this knowledge in your future career?

I will be studying to become a Nurse Practitioner. I plan to serve the underserved community providing medical care and continue serving my country as a United States Air Force reservist.

What would you tell other veterans about the Bass Military Scholars Program?

I will tell other veterans that the Bass Military scholar program provides an opportunity to be part of a veteran’s family that continues the tradition of service to others, through mentoring and events among other activities that empower the community. In addition, the program offers a veteran an exceptional opportunity to further their education through Bass Military scholarship.
