College Autism Network Launches Autism-Inclusive Campus Project to Help Campuses Strengthen Neuroinclusion

Every campus should aspire to be inclusive of the students it enrolls, and the College Autism Network’s new Autism-Inclusive Campus project recognizes and celebrates campuses that make neuroinclusion a campus-wide priority.

Through this initiative, the College Autism Network’s consulting team helps colleges and universities identify, assess, and strengthen the strategies and supports that make a meaningful difference for autistic students, staff, and faculty. By committing to pursue CAN’s Autism-Inclusive Campus Designation, participating institutions publicly signal both their awareness of neurodiversity on campus and their intention to keep improving.

The project is grounded in a strengths-based vision of inclusion: a campus where autistic and other neurodivergent people can live authentically, whether or not they choose to disclose; develop personally and professionally; contribute as valued members of a diverse community; and experience a sense of belonging.

CAN describes the designation process as collaborative, not competitive, with a goal of helping every participating campus grow its campus-wide involvement, resources, and practices to better support community members, with particular focus on autistic and other neurodivergent students, faculty, and staff.
