Frist Center announces new partnership with Floreo
The Frist Center for Autism and Innovation has begun a new partnership with the virtual reality start up Floreo.
Floreo develops virtual reality trainings for autistic people to learn and practice life skills. The primary user inserts a phone into the VR headset to view one of the sessions. Meanwhile, another user can connect a tablet to observe what the VR viewer is experiencing.
While a majority of their current modules are geared towards younger learners, Floreo is being used by a broad age range of people with autism.
Their most prominent learning module for adults is a law enforcement interaction training, which is funded by a generous grant from the National Institutes of Health. This particular program is being actively researched at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Center for Autism Research, and was recently featured in the Philadelphia Enquirer and Education Week.
Meanwhile, Floreo is developing lessons for following airport safety procedures(e.g. TSA lines) and is beginning to explore job training as a new area of content. The possibilities for enhanced, interactive learning are extensive, for both children and adults.
