The Department of Art at Vanderbilt University and Space 204  presents a site-specific installation from the artist, Nate Young opening on February 24, 2020, at 3 pm with an artist talk and reception. The exhibition will be on view February 24, 2020, thru March 13, 2020.

This exhibition is co-sponsored with the Department of African American and Diaspora Studies at Vanderbilt University.

In 2006, Nate Young and his older brother found a box of family photographs in their grandmother’s basement which subsequently initiated a series of stories about their ancestors. Among the photographs, an image of his great-grandfather standing next to a horse became a catalyst for the narrative of familial histories, memory, ritual, and belief – leading Young to discover the gravesite of the horse and exhuming the bones.

He received his MFA degree from the California Institute of the Arts in 2009, and a BA from Northwestern College in Minnesota in 2004.
