Matt completed his undergraduate studies at Hendrix College in Conway, AR, where he earned an ACS certified degree in Chemistry. During his time there, he worked with Dr. Liz Gron developing a rubric and experiments related to Scientific Literacy for introductory majors' and non-majors' chemistry laboratories. Additionally, he worked with water samples from two local lakes analyzing for various ions and metals as part of a water quality evaluation.
