Sewanee: The University of the South

Jaime is an undergraduate at the University of the South, commonly known as Sewanee, in Sewanee, Tennessee. He expects to graduate in 2010 with a B.S. in Biochemistry. Jaime comes to Vanderbilt University through the Research Experience for Undergraduate (REU) Program. In the Spring of 2009, he worked with Dr. Richard Summers at Sewanee on a research project which attempted to evaluate the importance of an insertion sequence found in the genome of Saccharopolyspora erythraea, the soil bacteria which synthesizes the antibiotic Erythromycin. After graduating from Sewanee, he hopes to enter graduate school and study either Biochemistry, Chemistry, or Biology. In his spare time Jaime enjoys rock climbing.
