NSF-REU in Chemical Biology The National Science Foundation sponsors research experiences for undergraduates (REU) at hundreds of college campuses in the United States. You can find REU’s in chemistry, biology, math, computer science and arctic exploration. These programs give students an intensive 10-week, full-time research experience. This program requires students to do real research: defining a problem, finding methods to approach the problem, conducting experiments and analyzing results. You will work with graduate students and post-doctoral associates in addition to other undergraduates. Students reside in campus housing and receive a stipend on which to live. REU programs also offer professional development opportunities as well as social interactions with other undergraduates from around the country. At Vanderbilt, we have an REU in Chemical-Biology. Students with at least sophomore standing and majoring in chemistry or biology are eligible to apply. Our program emphasizes interdisciplinary research at the interface of chemistry and biology. Each summer project represents a team approach to solving a complex problem at the chemistry biology interface or uses chemistry to solve a biological problem. Our students participate in many professional development events, such as the drug discovery symposium, and gather frequently for social programs and events. Applications for summer 2010 begin November 1st 2009. For details on the program and application instructions, please click on the following link:
