The Famous Profesor

Collected by Jessica Deutsch (jessica.w.deutsch@vanderbilt.edu)

Summary: A professor at Vanderbilt was the subject of a movie starring Robin Williams

Text: Robin Williams made a movie in around 1992 about an
inspirational English teacher at a New England boarding school; it was
called "Dead Poets Society". The teacher in the movie had to leave the
school because one of his students commited suicide, but none of his
other students wanted him to leave because they all loved him. The
teacher later came to Vanderbilt and is still a great English teacher
that everyone loves.

Notes: I've heard this story from a couple of people at Vanderbilt,
but I also heard it at my boarding school in Connecticut; that the
teacher from the movie had taught at my then-school. Because of that
reason I don't know if the tale is true (either one).
