Overview of Visitors in Other Visa Categories

F-1 & J-1 Visitors:

Persons in F-1 status must have an EAD (employment authorized document) to receive an honorarium. Persons in J-1 status must receive permission from their sponsoring institution’s DSO or RO in order to receive an honorarium. Both the F-1 and J-1 can receive reimbursement of travel and incidental expenses.

O, P and TN-1:

Visitors who hold an O, P, or TN-1 visa may receive honoraria, and are also allowed to receive reimbursements for travel and incidental expenses or per diem related to the business activity.

H-1B, A and G:

Visitors who hold an H-1B, A or G visa may receive honoraria only if they have an EAD (employment authorization document). They are, however, allowed to receive reimbursements for travel and incidental expenses or per diem related to the activity.
