BENEFITS OF Negative CAMPAIGN ADS

VIDEOCONFERENCE SERIES: Race for the Presidency

PRESENTERS: Dr. John Geer - Vanderbilt University Distinguished Professor of Political Science and Editor of The Journal of Politics

PURPOSE:
John G. Geer, author of "In Defense of Negativity: Attack Ads in Presidential Campaigns", does not follow the conventional wisdom about negative television ads. He argues that negative ads are positive. Geer states that negative ads focus on important political issues and give voters critical information about differences between candidates. He says that attack ads do not degrade, but rather enrich the democratic process.
