The Presidential Race: A View from Washington

presented by Jeff Vincent

The Presidential election season is a time of national debate over
issues that affect every American family - taxes, national defense,
homeland security, education, the environment.  Each community
across the country views these issues in a unique way.  Every four
years, the presidential election gives our national policymakers a
real incentive to gauge local, state and regional views about these
concerns.  It also gives the "grassroots" public an opportunity to
stand up and be heard, but this is not necessarily spread evenly
across the United States.

1) Blue State, Red State and Battleground State: how doe political
analysts view your home?  Is it reflected in the attention your
community receives from the presidential candidates?
2) What polling questions does Washington care about?  How do the
answers from polls affect policy decisions?
3) What are other ways that Washington learns what is important to
the citizens of the United States?
4) What does a victory for either candidate mean for how decisions
that affect you are made in Washington?
