Program Description   Careers in Architecture are the imaginative blend of art and science in the design of environments for people. Decision-making, team leadership, communication, and creativity are the key skills of architects.

People need places in which to live, work, play, learn, worship, meet, govern, shop, eat: private and public spaces, indoors and out; rooms, buildings, and complexes; neighborhoods and towns, suburbs and cities. Architects are professionals trained in the art and science of building design and licensed to protect public health, safety and welfare.

In high school, students should pursue a program strong in English, history, social studies, mathematics, physics, and foreign languages and then add courses in business and computer science. Freehand drawing skills will be more useful to an architect student than drafting ability.

An architecture curriculum in college is intensive and demanding, often requiring many hours of effort. Design studio -- individual work guided by frequent review with a professor -- and lecture and laboratory courses in engineering, technology, history, planning, and the environment will be combined with studies outside the professional curriculum.

Come and explore a career in architecture and learn how architects transform the needs of people into concepts and then develop the concepts into building images that can be constructed by others. Learn how design ideas become physical realities.
Program Format   The videoconference will be a 20-25 minute presentation and may include visuals or audiovisuals to enhance the presentation.

This will be followed by an interactive 10-15 minute question/answer session with students.
Objectives   Students will:
1) Learn about the challenging jobs of architects
2) Explore the world of architectural design, projects & products, industry news and trends, and building technology.
3) Discuss "urban sprawl" and the return to city dwelling
