International Internship Opportunities for Undergraduate and Graduate Students

There are a number of resources provided at VU for students interested in interning abroad, including the Global Education Office and the Vanderbilt Center for Student Professional Development (formerly the Career Center).

Additionally, many of Vanderbilt's schools and colleges have internship programs through which students can obtain internships in the US or abroad that may carry credit. Students should check with their department or advisor to find out which specific opportunities exist that may offer an appropriate intercultural or international component.

The American-Scandinavian Foundation

Offers an internship placement service as well as assistance with work permits in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway or Sweden. Fellowships, training and more are offered as well.


AmeriSpan sends thousands of people of all ages to participate in language immersion, volunteer projects, internship placements and educational programs throughout Latin America. Academic study programs, Spanish programs for current and future educators and more.

Offers a directory of short-term job, volunteer, and internship experiences in many different countries. The programs have internships in engineering, medicine, non-profit, and business. Most programs do have placement fees associated with them. US citizenship is not required for most of the programs.

Blue Ventures Interns

Blue Ventures offers unpaid 6-9 month internships in Science and Management in London (UK). For the Science Internship, individual training will be provided in field research methodologies, taxonomy, tropical ecology, analytical techniques and report writing related to our conservation, education and research initiatives in the field. The internship provides an excellent opportunity to develop report-writing skills and to gain hands on experience in the preparation of scientific papers and reports for presentation and publication to a range of target audiences. The Management Internship provides an excellent opportunity to develop a wide range of transferable skills including project management, logistics and operations, and marketing and fundraising.

Carnegie Endowment for International Peace Junior Fellow Program

Year-long paid internship for graduating seniors interested in careers in international affairs. Internship is at the Carnegie Endowment for World Peace in Washington, D.C. Open to non-U.S. Citizens.

CDS International

Offers placement programs for internships in Germany, Argentina and Spain.

C.E.I. – Club des 4 Vents / Work in France

Through these programs, you will greatly improve your language skills and your knowledge of French culture. The Job Program, as you will be paid a salary, will enable you to finance your stay. Placed in a French company, the Internship Program will give you the opportunity to use your professional skills and to enhance your CV. The internship or work experience consists of an UNPAID (but very often compensated) placement in a French company for an assignment relating to studies. You have to be living and studying in your own country, and older than 18 to apply.

College for Global Studies (Arcadia University)

Internships and study programs in Australia, England, China, Equatorial Guinea, Greece, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Scotland, Spain, and Wales offered by Arcadia University. Offers include parliamentary internships, summer programs, and special opportunities for graduate students.

Cross-Cultural Solutions

Operates international Intern Abroad programs in 10 countries with start dates year-round, and lengths-of-stay from 2-12 weeks. Interns can focus on Health, Education or Social Services. Partial scholarships are available. Applicants of all levels are welcome; special needs and/or disabilities of the applicants will be accommodated if necessary.

FAS – International Agricultural Internship Program

The International Agricultural Internship Program (IAIP) provides international agricultural trade experience to senior and graduate college and university students that have the background and interest to help our 90 overseas offices promote U.S. agricultural interests abroad. To be eligible for this program, you must be a U.S. citizen majoring in a business or science related agricultural field, such as agricultural economics, economics, finance, business or marketing. Students majoring in an international studies/relations program, in law school, or in a biotechnology program are also eligible.

Foundation for Sustainable Development

Partners with a grassroots organization in Latin America, East Africa, or India to improve a community’s social conditions, economic opportunities and overall environment. Opportunities are available in Argentina, Bolivia, Ecuador, India, Kenya, Nicaragua, Peru and Uganda, working on international and community development.

Global Experiences

Global Experiences is an international education programs provider, specializing in international internships and work experience abroad, summer internships, fashion internships abroad, volunteer programs, teaching ESL, foreign language training, and similar programs, mostly in Italy, Australia and Ecuador. Programs are open to all nationalities and backgrounds, with many levels of academic and professional experience. Some positions require minimum proficiency in a foreign language or work experience in a given field.

IASTE – The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience

IAESTE’s Placement Program matches technical students from U.S. universities with paid internships abroad. Internships are available in private companies, research laboratories, universities, and other academic institutions. Applicants may be juniors or seniors in engineering, architecture, mathematics, computer sciences, and natural and physical sciences. Work-permit service is also offered. There is a fee to participate in this program.

Comprehensive nonprofit site that includes internship and volunteer listings as well as paid jobs for a variety of countries.

IES Abroad

Offers summer internship programs in London, Dublin and Barcelona as well as summer and academic year study-abroad programs in 15 countries. Internships in a wide variety of fields and in diverse countries worldwide are also available to qualifying students.

Independent Work Abroad in Germany

This program provides work authorization in Germany for enrolled students or recent graduates from U.S. universities and colleges. Participants find their own host companies and negotiate the terms of employment. Enrolled students can intern for up to 12 months, while graduates might extend the program up to a total of 18 months. A program fee applies.

Independent Work Abroad in Switzerland

This program provides work authorization for Switzerland for recent U.S. graduates. Participants find their own host companies and negotiate the terms of employment. Work authorization can be provided for up to 18 months. For U.S. citizens. A program fee applies.

Infosys' Technologies Ltd. Global Internship Program

Infosys' IT consulting and software solutions address the mission-critical needs of Fortune 500 corporations as well as emerging corporate leaders. Interns are provided a monthly student trainee allowance to take care of all the living costs. Locations for internships: mainly India, also United Kingdom, Japan, and Canada. Applicants may be undergraduates, post-graduates, or doctoral students.


Working Abroad offers U.S. citizens the opportunity to work legally while traveling abroad. Offers jobs, international internships, au pair/childcare, volunteer, informal teaching and farm worker programs in sixteen countries around the world (Australia, Costa Rica, France, Germany, England, India, Italy, Kenya, Mexico, Namibia, Netherlands, Norway, Peru, South Africa, Spain, and Zimbabwe).

International Association of Students in Economics and Commerce (AIESEC)

A university-based, worldwide internship program for student members interested in business and management.

International Cooperative Education

Arranges paid internships in Germany, Switzerland, Belgium, Luxembourg, Finland, and Japan. One year college-level German, French, or Italian and/or two years minimum college-level Japanese required.

International Volunteer Programs Association

A search engine for finding international volunteer and internship placements.

Internship in Argentina

This program, administered in cooperation with the partner organization COINED (Comision de Intercambio Educativo), provides internship opportunities for U.S. students and young professionals in either Córdoba or Buenos Aires, Argentina. Unpaid placements are available in the fields of business/ finance, hotel management/ tourism, computer science, and engineering. For U.S. or Canadian citizens only.

Internship Program in Germany

This program provides practical training opportunities in Germany for American students and recent graduates and non U.S. citizens enrolled in an accredited U.S. college or university. Paid placements are available in business, finance, technical, and engineering fields. Language requirements and others apply. Please see the website for details. Open to U.S. citizens as well as international applicants.

Internships in Francophone Europe

Offers a semester-long academic internship program to students and recent graduates of North American schools.

Mountbatten Program

The Mountbatten Program offers young Americans with a Bachelor’s degree the opportunity to pursue a 12-month internship in the business environment of a London based organization. The internship year offers practical experience through participation and training in business, while also developing international and cross-cultural awareness through residence in Britain. There is a fee to participate in this program.


Courses, internships, and volunteer work in Spain are available through this program. Basic Spanish recommended.

Summer Internship Program in Germany

This summer program provides training opportunities in Germany for students enrolled in U.S. colleges and universities. Paid placements are available in business/finance, hotel management / tourism, computer science, and engineering fields.

Summer Internship Program in Spain

This program (June to August) provides an opportunity for American and Canadian students to complete professional internships in Spain in a variety of fields. All internships are unpaid. However, host companies will be asked to provide some form of non-monetary compensation, such as free housing, meals, and/or public transportation to and from work. There is a program application fee.

U.S. Department of State – Student Employment Programs

The Department manages several student employment programs that enable students to get experience in a foreign affairs environment through on-the-job experience. Some of our students work in Washington, DC, and others have the opportunity to work at an embassy overseas. Positions are both paid and unpaid and many are available during spring, summer, or fall. For U.S. citizens.
