Research Information

Starting with cardiac and neural measurements on humans and animals in the 1970's, John is shrinking the spatial scale of his research by two orders of magnitude each decade. Presently, his research utilizes biological microelectromechanical systems (BioMEMS).and computer algorithms to instrument and control single cells and small cell populations, emphasizing cell signaling, motility, and metabolism. In his nanoscale decade, his group uses quantum dots to decorate T cells and microcantilevers and is developing instruments to characterize quantum-dot aggregation.
