Peter Cummings appointed to two NSF advisory boards

Peter T. Cummings, John R. Hall Professor of Chemical Engineering, and the Principal Scientist of the Center for Nanophase Materials Sciences at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, has been appointed to the National Science Foundation's Advisory Committee for the Engineering Directorate and to the Advisory Committee for Cyberinfrastructure.

The appointments are for three years. The Advisory Committee for the Engineering Directorate provides the Engineering Directorate with advice, recommendations and counsel on major goals and policies pertaining to engineering programs and activities.

The Advisory Committee for Cyberinfrastructure advises the NSF as a whole on matters related to creating a digital ecosystem for science, with the goal of better enabling computational and data-enabled science and engineering.

Cummings is a fellow of the American Physical Society, the American Association for the Advancement of Science, and the American Institute of Chemical Engineers. He received the Founder’s Award from American Institute of Chemical Engineers in 2010. He will receive the 2012 Yeram S. Touloukian Award from the American Society of Mechanical Engineers in June and will present the Touloukian lecture during the opening plenary session of the ASME conference.
