Vanderbilt celebrates a rich
diversity of thought and identity. We believe a residential community provides the
opportunity for a well-rounded academic and social experience. Our students, faculty,
staff, programming, and community initiatives all demonstrate Vanderbilt's commitment
to diversity. We strive each year to recruit a highly qualified first-year class from
a variety of populations.
Through
the Honor Code, Community Creed, student-directed service opportunities
and campus programs, our
students also consider moral and ethical issues and put the many
facets of their lives into a personal framework of values. Increasing
numbers of our students volunteer through more than 30 service organizations,
and many elect to work on service-oriented projects during Alternate
Spring Break.

About
200 incoming freshmen took part in last summers Squirrel Camp,
an orientation program that focuses on teambuilding exercises. The
students, shown above,
built boats out of cardboard and duck tape and competed against
each other to see who could stay afloat and complete a course on
a lake.
