The
Social Religious Building at Peabody College, which was transformed
under Vanderbilt's sixth Chancellor Joe B. Wyatt from a historic
landmark to one of the nation's most advanced learning environments,
was renamed for the former Chancellor and his wife, Faye, on April
29, 2000. The building, above, is now known as the Faye and Joe Wyatt Center for Education. Click

front lawn of the Wyatt Center.
In 1867,
George Peabody established The Peabody Education Fund with a $1
million grant to improve education in the South, and the institution
bearing his name established a worldwide reputation as a premier
educator of teachers. Located across the street from Vanderbilt,
Peabody and its neighbor merged 20 years ago, pledging to retain
the strengths of both institutions.
Continuing
its commitment to teacher education, Peabody has been consistently
named by Rugg's Recommendations on the Colleges as the top education
program in the country. Among the top-ten ranked colleges of education
nationally, only Peabody has an undergraduate program.
