<p>James Dobbins will present his research on inland marine casualty data analysis to the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) in Washington, DC on December 4th and 5th.</p>
<p>The conference is titled &#8220;Current and Future Use of GIS Mapping Technology to Increase Transportation Safety.&#8221;</p>

<p>WASHINGTON-The National Transportation Safety Board will hold a  conference Dec. 4 and Dec. 5, 2012 at its Washington headquarters to  explore the use of Geographic Information Systems, or GIS, in analyzing  and preventing transportation accidents.</p>
<p>GIS is a rapidly expanding group of technologies and analytical  techniques that uses geographically referenced data to support complex  data integration, advanced statistical analysis, precise investigation  and effective visualization of data.</p>
<p>The meeting will bring researchers and practitioners in transportation  safety and GIS together to discuss how GIS data, technologies and  techniques are applied to improve safety in all modes of transportation.</p>
