Building a Community with Hope
For over 90 years Vanderbilt employees have shown our willingness to help the community.
- Faculty members from Blair School of Music volunteer their time to teach students at W. O. Smith Community Music School.
- The Shade Tree Clinic is a free clinic administered by Vanderbilt Center for Health Services and run by our medical students and doctors.
- We all pulled together to help our community in the wake of the devastating flood of 2010.
In these and many other ways it can truly be said that "Vanderbilt Gives."
In addition, every year all Vanderbilt employees have the opportunity to support community agencies during Vanderbilt Gives. You may support the area charitable agency of your choice by making a tax deductible donation. Donations can be payroll deducted on a monthly basis for one year. One click is all it takes to make a difference in someone's life.
Our partners -- Community Shares, Nashville Public Education Foundation, United Way of Metropolitan Nashville and Community Health Charities -- tackle challenges such as hunger, domestic violence, protecting the environment, job training and many others. No gift is too small to make an impact. Our support can build a community with hope.
Community Partners / Federations
Community Shares - "Building Social and Economic Equity and a Healthy Environment" is this federation's emphasis. It is dedicated to social change organizations in order to promote a more just and caring community. Member groups address a range of issues including animal welfare, unemployment, racism, domestic violence, child abuse prevention, pollution and supporting strong communities.
Nashville Public Education Foundation supports programs that build broader and deeper community engagement in public education. Formerly known as the Nashville Alliance for Public Education, it was established by the late Nelson Andrews to secure private philanthropy to support larger, strategic initiatives in public education and prepare every student for college and careers.
United Way of Metropolitan Nashville works to bring people and organizations together to create a community where individuals, families and neighborhoods thrive. It advances the common good by focusing on what it considers the building blocks for a good life: a quality education that leads to a stable job, enough income to support a family through retirement, good health and safe living conditions. Any eligible health and human services nonprofit organization may submit a proposal for United Way funding. These proposals undergo a rigorous approval process, and once funded, the programs are closely monitored by volunteers to ensure that the money is invested wisely and the programs get the best results.
Community Health Charities of Tennessee and its members are working for a healthy Tennessee. One in four of our co-workers, family and friends are likely dealing with a chronic health condition as a patient or a caregiver. Our charities have local offices serving the Nashville community through medical research, support programs, financial assistance, educational materials and other patient services. It also is able to deliver credible health information and provide community focused volunteer activities.
