Vanderbilt University Trombone Studio

 

LAWRENCE BORDEN is the Associate Professor of trombone at Vanderbilt's Blair School of Music. A graduate of Northwestern University, Mr. Borden has just recently completed work on a Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching and Learning at Vanderbilt. As Principal trombone of the Nashville Symphony Orchestra since 1982, he has been engaged with the art and science of music on many levels. As a performer he has not only played in the NSO, but also performed in the brass quintet, Sonus Brass, which has toured and taught in the U.S., Taiwan, and Venezuela. In demand as a researcher and teacher, Borden has presented lectures and concerts in Canada, Taiwan, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Holland, as well as in many Colleges and Universities in the U.S. He continues to explore methods of integrating a variety of technologies into music instruction in ways that will ultimately help students to learn more quickly. Lawrence also teaches courses in Music Cognition at the Blair School and now looks forward to many productive years of performances as a member of the newly formed Blair Brass Quintet.
