About TLSAMP

Vanderbilt University is a partner in the Tennessee Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation (TLSAMP). The goal of TLSAMP is to increase the number of underrepresented minority students who receive bachelors degrees in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) in the State of Tennessee by at least 100% within a five-year period.

In order to reach this goal, we have three objectives:

  1. to recruit underrepresented Vanderbilt students to pursue science, mathematics, or engineering as a career,

  2. to improve the quality of the learning environment for underrepresented STEM students at Vanderbilt,

  3. to ensure that a larger number of Vanderbilt undergraduates are prepared to enter graduate programs.

This program is designed to give provide student support in effort of helping students successfully complete their STEM degree program. TLSAMP offers:

  • a tutorial program
  • a mentoring program
  • a summer bridge program
  • a research symposium
  • undergraduate research opportunities may be available
  • internship opportunities may be available
  • stipends for students who choose to become active members of the T-LSAMP.

If you are a minority student majoring in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics you are eligible to participate and I encourage you to take advantage of the TLSAMP program.  Look forward to hearing more information about the TLSAMP program in the near future.  If you have additional questions about the TLSAMP program, please email me at  burgess.mitchell@vanderbilt.edu.

Best Regards,

Burgess Mitchell, Director of Student Services
