Dead Man's Cell Phone

When Jean answers a stranger's cell phone, she beings a series of adventures that immerse her in his life, his family, his loves, and his work.  Written by MacArthur Award winner Sarah Ruhl, Dead Man's Cell Phone explores that which connects us in this digital age and offers a whimsical meditation on what it means to disconnect.
The Taming of the Shrew

High-stakes confidence man Petruchio comes to town in order to wed and bed a rich heiress.  Mayhem ensues when he meets his match in Katherine, the notorious Shrew of this timeless tale of hot love and steamy compromise.
The Good Person of Setzuan

Shen Teh, a poor woman, is known throughout Setzuan for her extravagant generosity, while her rich cousin, Shui Ta, is regarded as a heartless businessman.  Which of the two is the better person?  Bertolt Brecht's timely play wittily interrogates notions of morality in a world in which success is measured by material wealth.

Once again, Vanderbilt Theatre is privileged to host Actors from the London Stage, the company that performed the delightful Twelfth Night in our previous season.  Enjoy the artistry of this five-person troupe as they negotiate Prince Hamlet of Denmark's slings and arrows of outrageous fortune in this classic tragedy.

Winner of the 1999 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, this heart-warming, humorous play captures an acclaimed scholar's inspirational journey after she receives a devastating medical diagnosis.  Although accustomed to extensive academic research, Professor Bearing must now confront a highly personal investigation into her own values and humanity.
