Faculty Inventors

Overview

OTTED provides a number of services to faculty inventors.  One of the most important set of services relates to the commercialization of “technologies” developed by faculty which, in turn, may result in financial returns for both the inventor and the institution.  These commercialization facilitation activities include:

  • Evaluating the commercial potential of new technologies
  • Determining patentability
  • Registering copyrights
  • Marketing and licensing patents, materials, and software
  • Negotiating license agreements
  • Receiving and distributing royalties and other income to inventors and Vanderbilt University schools and departments

Other important faculty services include:

  • Negotiating material transfer agreements
  • Assisting in the negotiation of sponsored research agreements
  • Assisting in the company start-up process
