In the Spring of 2007, Vanderbilt Divinity School received a magnanimous gift from United Methodist layperson and businessman Cal Turner, Jr. to establish 21 full-time scholarships. The Turner Leadership Scholars program awards seven full-tuition grants annually to candidates for the Master of Divinity program who seek ordination and intend to pursue congregational ministry in the United Methodist Church. The Scholars also receive an annual stipend (up to $10,000) for their work in a local congregation during the academic year.
The Cal Turner Jr. Leadership Scholarship is awarded to promising candidates for the Master of Divinity degree program who demonstrate a clear intent to pursue congregational ministry. Further, it will enable an environment conducive to an outstanding classroom and practical experience that will prepare students for parish ministry in the United Methodist Church within our region.
