The Vanderbilt Vanpool Initiative
From the MyVU web page, September 6, 2007
The University Office of Traffic & Parking and the Medical Center Office of Parking & Transportation Services are excited to announce that we are partnering with the Regional Transportation Authority (RTA) and the Transportation Management Association Group (TMA) to unleash a new vanpool program here at Vanderbilt. Vanpools typically consist of 10-15 employees commuting from the same general area and riding together in vans to work. The vans travel between one or more common pick-up locations and can be a great alternative to commuting by oneself. The RTA and TMA will professionally manage the service by providing the vans and helping place employees in a vanpool according to where they live. We will offer reserved parking spaces in convenient locations for each vanpool at no charge.
Your monthly cost to participate will vary according to where you live, the number of riders and the cost of gas. If your daily commute is substantial, you can save money by reducing the wear and tear to your personal vehicle and saving on gas and insurance costs. For more information on potential savings, and to fill in the “Commuter Cost Calculator”, please visit: http://www.rideshareonline.com/CostCalculator.htm.
If you are interested in being included in a vanpool, please visit the the TMA Group website (http://www.tmagroup.org/van_pool.php) and you can sign up for a vanpool in your area if one is available. A link to the TMA website is also available on the on the main menu of the University Office of Traffic & Parking website - just click on “Vanpool Program”.
