Brief Overview of Vanderbilt Student Activities Related to Sustainability
Students on our campus are increasingly aware of and interested in sustainability programs. The SPEAR group is the most visible and active undergraduate group on campus and has been instrumental in managing the recycling program over the years. Additionally, there are many graduate level environmentally-focused student groups that are working within their chosen field such as;
- NetImpact in Owen Graduate School of Management (OGSM).
- Wilderness Skills (WilSkills)
- Emerging Green Builders
- VUMC Cares in VUMC School of Medicine (SOM)
- Environmental Law Society in the Law School
As further indication of Vanderbilt students' growing interest in sustainability, Vanderbilt hosted the 2006 COOL Idealist National Conference and will be host to the 2007 NetImpact national conference. Thus, there is a recent and growing movement among our student body to choose a school they consider environmentally and socially responsible AND to further that commitment once they are on campus.
