Brief Overview of Vanderbilt Academic Activities Related to Sustainability

As a top-20 center for scholarly research, almost every school within Vanderbilt University is conducting research that has the potential to inform and improve our common future. Additionally, Vanderbilt faculty have a number of on-going educational initiatives underway. A few spotlighted efforts from the past year are:

• Bringing traditional environmental speakers to campus such as William McDonough and Helen Caldicott.
• Linking social responsbility and sustainability to corporate behavior with speakers such as Home Depot co-founder, Bernie Marcus.
• Launch of the GreenBox suggestion website.
• A recent forum on Religion and the Environment sponsored by the Center for Ecology and Spirituality.
• A large number of environmentally-focused degree programs and classes.
• A nanotechnology environmental management workshop hosted by the Vanderbilt Center for Environmental Management Studies and the Environmental Law Institute.
