Reprinted from The Vanderbilt Register

Vanderbilt employees may purchase tickets for the Music City Star commuter railway at a reduced rate. Under a new agreement with the Regional Transportation Authority, Vanderbilt faculty and staff may purchase tickets at 21.5 percent off of the already discounted monthly rate. The discount applies to individual ticket prices as well. For example, the pre-purchased single trip fare from Mt. Juliet to Nashville is $4.50. With the Vanderbilt-negotiated RTA discount, the cost will be $2.97 per ticket.

Faculty and staff who work in the Medical Center will be eligible for an additional discount -

Tickets must be purchased at either of the Vanderbilt Valet offices (Medical Center North, Room D-2100, or on the second floor of Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital) or in the East Garage Central Parking office.

A current university or medical center ID is required to purchase the discounted tickets. Tickets are to be used by Vanderbilt employees only and may not be resold. All RTA terms and conditions apply to the use of the tickets.

The negotiated discount largely is due to the success of the MTA – Vanderbilt Free Ride to Work program. Vanderbilt was able to demonstrate it can significantly increase participation in mass transit programs through incentives to its employees.
