On-campus swap event to celebrate launch of new Vandy FreeSwap website

Posted by on Thursday, October 21, 2010 in News.

Have you been wondering what to do with that spare bookshelf or old CDs or books lying around? Looking for a new coffee table or some movies to watch with the family? The Sustainability and Environmental Management Office (SEMO), VU Student Communications, and News and Public Affairs are pleased to launch Vandy FreeSwap, www.vanderbilt.edu/vandyfreeswap, a website similar to Craigslist and Freecycle but just for Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff who are giving away (and getting) free, usable, unwanted items to others instead of disposing of them in landfills.

In celebration of this new offering, SEMO will host a live, on-campus FreeSwap event open to Vanderbilt employees and students on Wednesday, Oct. 27, from 7:30 a.m.-4 p.m. on Olin Lawn.

You may find what you’re looking for — and unload stuff you don’t want. Items from Vanderbilt activities as well as from home will be welcome. All goods remaining at the close of the event will be donated to local charities.

Where: Olin Lawn Tent
When: Wednesday, Oct. 27 from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Parking: Drop-off and loading of items will take place in metered spaces along Garland Avenue for swap participants only

Acceptable items:

  • Media, such as books, CDs, DVDs and VHS tapes
  • Electronics
  • Furniture
  • Packing boxes and materials
  • School and office supplies
  • Appliances and household items

Clothing will NOT be accepted at the live swap. Individuals wishing to swap clothing items are encouraged to utilize the new online Vandy FreeSwap website at www.vanderbilt.edu/sustainability/vandyfreeswap.

NOTE: Vanderbilt students, faculty and staff who have items to sell may use the myVU Classifieds at www.vanderbilt.edu/myvu/classifieds.

The on-campus FreeSwap event is being co-sponsored by VU Plant Operations, Vanderbilt Environmental Health and Safety, VU Office of Housing and Residential Education and the VU Graduate Student Council, (http://studentorgs.vanderbilt.edu/gsc/).
